Much has been written and said
about the role of Texans in the Civil War campaigns east of the
Mississippi. But what about what was happening here at home in Texas
during 1861-1865? This two-part documentary takes an in-depth look at
life hereon the home front: the pivotal roles that women, Native
Americans, African Americans and Tejanos played during the War Between
the States. Important contributions and sacrifices to the war effort were
made by many Texans who endured numerous hardships during four long
years.
This program also takes a look
at the key military and social events in Texas during the Civil War: The
Battles of Sabine Pass and Galveston, The Red River Campaign, The Sibley
Campaign to New Mexico, among others. Events at Gainesville, The Nueces
River, Brownsville, Jefferson and Marshall, are also covered, to name a
